ROANOKE, VA — October 20, 2015 — Mary Myers, a life sciences leader and U.S. Army veteran with more than 25 years in the healthcare industry, has been selected as president of the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN) Board of Directors. Myers begins her two-year term of service in January 2016.

Myers, who is currently director of training and development for Bayer HealthCare, succeeds outgoing Board President John Sjovall, whose term expires at the end of 2015. Myers, also a current member of the LTEN Board, was selected from several candidates for the leadership position. Myers brings an extensive background in life sciences that includes starting her career as a sales representative, quickly advancing to district manager and regional sales director, and ultimately serving as a director of training for Eisai and Bayer.

“We are thrilled that Mary will be leading the LTEN Board these next two years,” said Dawn Brehm, LTEN executive director. “Mary will bring a focus on innovation to her role, and she places a strong emphasis on creating networking, learning and professional development opportunities for LTEN members. From her time in the U.S. Army through her impressive career, she has proven herself to be an extraordinary leader. I know all LTEN members, board and advisory council members and the LTEN staff will enjoy working with Mary.”

Myers has been a valued LTEN member since 2010, joined the LTEN Board in 2013 and elected as vice president in 2014. She has served on the LTEN research panel, been a guest editor for Focus magazine and has been a guest speaker at many LTEN conferences and webinars.

“Becoming president of the LTEN Board is just one more way to serve this great organization,” said Mary Myers. “So many volunteers and industry leaders giving of their time and talents to bring clarity, community and career resources to life sciences training and education professionals. Working with all of them has always been an honor.”

During her two-year term as president, Myers will lead the LTEN Board in crafting and implementing a strategic plan that will enhance the value of LTEN to all life science trainers and will ultimately grow membership.

Myers steps into some large shoes for the role, relieving John Sjovall, senior director of commercial capabilities and training for Collegium Pharmaceutical. During his two-year term, Sjovall and LTEN leadership brought about the major organizational LTEN rebrand, introduced new networking mixers, led the expansion of LTEN offerings into to the global marketplace and led the exploration of new community communication tools.

"I am very excited about Mary being chosen as my successor. She is an experienced leader and educator and I know the entire board and I are looking forward to working with her in writing the next chapter for LTEN," said Sjovall.

The Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network ( is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the professional goals of trainers and educators in the life sciences by providing the clarity, community and career resources needed to excel in leadership and learning.
