Roanoke, VA, May 15, 2020 – The Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN) named Julie Fassel of AstraZeneca and Rosa Hanks of CooperSurgical as the inaugural LTEN Field Trainer Scholarship recipients.

The new scholarship highlights and rewards field trainers who have completed innovative training projects and demonstrated ahead-of-the-curve thinking. Honorees receive a full pass to the 2021 LTEN Annual Conference to continue their professional growth as training leaders.

Julie Fassel is executive sales specialist at AstraZeneca and was nominated by her colleague and commercial learning manager, Elizabeth Meleshenko and endorsed by Michael Hoffman, oncology district sales manager at AstraZeneca for Julie’s training excellence and peer leadership. In addition to her passion and clinical expertise, the nomination cited Julie’s role in developing a nursing speaker bureau to help train and educate customers and representatives on adverse event management.

Elizabeth wrote that, “Julie exhibits the ‘triple threat’ in her skillset of clinical acumen, peer leadership and training excellence. Based on her history, Julie would no doubt take what she learns at the annual conference to enhance herself, teammates and peers and to continue to contribute to making patients lives better. In addition, Julie will add value to the conference as she can draw upon her 19 years of experience in pharmaceuticals and her many years of experience on various training workstreams and teams.”

Rosa Hanks is account manager for CooperSurgical and was nominated by Millie Colon, director of sales training at CooperSurgical and recommended by senior regional sales manager at Teva Women’s Health, Butch McKenna. Rosa was nominated for her major contribution in creating the “Be a Star” Fall 2019 POA Sales Training workshops, which Millie notes as the organization’s “most successful and impactful sales meetings [she’s] ever participated in.” Rosa helped to develop the concept, materials and worked alongside external partners to bring the learning to life.

Millie wrote that, “Rosa has been a field trainer several times and with different organizations which shows her passion for training, beyond just being a stepping stone in her career. She’s had a lasting impact on new hires as well as her peers through coaching and mentoring but also through innovative ways of thinking about her craft and training. She’s the first person to raise her hand and the first person to turn around projects! As her mentor, I believe the experience of attending a meeting like LTEN, with like-minded professionals in her industry will broaden her view of her role and future career aspirations. Everyone remembers their first LTEN meeting and I would love for Rosa to share in this experience. I can’t think of anyone more deserving but most importantly, who will get so much out of it. I’m proud to work alongside Rosa and would be proud to see her be the recipient of this scholarship.”

Scholarship winners were determined based on project merit by a panel of training leaders, with final winner selections made by the LTEN Board of Directors.

The scholarship is part of a broader strategic initiative to serve the LTEN community of field-based trainers who are vital in onboarding, field training and coaching, who serve as a unique liaison between sales or commercial field teams and the home office.
