Katie Herndon Joins LTEN Team as Executive Director

Feb. 7, 2022 – Kathleen “Katie” Herndon, Ph.D., has joined LTEN as executive director, effective today. Dr. Herndon is taking over the role from Dawn Brehm, who will be retiring after working with Dr. Herndon for a brief onboarding period.

Dr. Herndon has more than 10 years’ experience leading trade associations, nonprofits and professional networks like LTEN, including her previous position as executive director of the Marine Technology Society (MTS). Other leadership positions include Association Management Professionals, the Virginia Land Title Association (VLTA) and the Maryland Land Title Association (MLTA). Among other successes in those roles, under her leadership, the VLTA tripled its membership.

“I’m so excited to be joining LTEN today, and I’m looking forward to working with the members, Board, committees and staff as we continue to grow and evolve our network,” Dr. Herndon said. “LTEN is a diverse, vibrant, innovative group and the mission is about the positive growth and development of people, business and the learning industry itself. I’m honored to be a part of all that.”

Dr. Herndon has a doctorate in research psychology and has also worked as a certified family mediator, led numerous research studies and served as a consular officer with the U.S. Foreign Service in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She’s also the recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, speaks four languages and has authored several volumes of fiction and nonfiction books, along with textbooks & courses. Dr. Herndon, who also plays the piano and guitar, lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, Artur, and six children.

Dr. Herndon was selected after an extensive search for candidates, led by an LTEN Board of Directors committee.

“Katie is going to be a dynamic leader for the LTEN team, and I know she’ll be a valuable resource for our Board leaders, all LTEN volunteers and the membership in general,” said Richard Sampson, president of the LTEN Board of Directors. “Dawn Brehm made a significant impact and set a high standard as our last executive director, so Katie has great momentum to build on in her new role. Her record shows the drive, commitment, vision and talents that LTEN needs in our changing industry and business environments, and we’re thrilled to be welcoming her today.”
