Bonus Focus - Meet A Member: 5 Questions with George Ericsson

By Tim Sosbe

Networking is crucial to business careers and is one of the main benefits of LTEN membership: The chance to meet, connect and learn from your life sciences peers. In this Bonus Focus feature, we’re happy to introduce you to LTEN member George Ericsson.

Ericsson is the CEO and founder of G Ericsson & Associates, where he is a learning strategy & design architect and focuses on business development and operations. This Q&A article will tell you more about Ericsson and his life sciences career.

Bonus Focus (BF): How long have you been an LTEN member and what led you to join?
George Ericsson (GE):
21+ years. Joined originally to “sharpen the saw” – build my skills as an L&D professional.

BF: What value has LTEN brought to your career?
GE:
Primary: Continually makes me a better L&D professional. Secondary: LTEN membership connects me to the broader community of corporate trainers and vendor partners across a very diverse range of biopharma companies.

BF: What is the best career advice you received?
GE:
Our job is to “Make sick people well.” All else comes from that point. We should always remember that someone’s mom, dad, sister, brother or child will get a medicine or device because of how we train people. Do it well and with integrity. (Thank you W. Graham)

BF: What advice would you offer someone seeking a career in training?
GE:
Understand that this is a role that can be a great development step onward to other roles (sales management, marketing, etc.), but that it should also be considered as a career path. Learning & development is a craft that requires effort to master, but it is a great way to have a positive impact on the lives of many people and, in turn, improve the lives of the many patients who benefit from our products.

BF: When you think of a great leader you worked with, what made them great?
GE:
Humility, showing respect to others ideas and their needs as a person, as well as an employee. Honest, timely coaching and proactive career support were also key skills
